Custom Pet Figurine from Photo: Handmade Clay & Wool Felt
A custom pet figurine only works if it looks like the animal it is meant to be. That is the whole brief. We are a handmade-craft studio and factory in China with 15 years of sculpting experience, and we build every piece to order from the buyer’s own photographs — in soft clay or in needle-felted wool, at any size from 6 cm to 16 cm, with the pose, expression and name you specify. For brands, boutiques, memorial sellers and wholesale buyers, the process is simple: MOQ 1 pc, samples in 1-3 days, production in 2-10 days.
Soft Clay or Wool Felt? Choosing the Right Craft
Both crafts are made entirely by hand, and both begin with your photos. The difference is in how the piece is built and how it reads.
Soft clay (sculpted). The animal is sculpted by hand, then painted by hand, with hand-made resin eyes carrying most of the expression. Every piece sits on a stable base. Available at approximately 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 cm, with display heights of roughly 10 cm / 15 cm / 17 cm / 20 cm+ depending on pose and base. Clay holds fine detail — whiskers, ear folds, the exact shape of a muzzle. Overall fidelity is around 90%+.
Wool felt (needle-felted). Made from Australian imported wool, needle-felted fibre by fibre to a finished height of approximately 15 cm. An optional glass-dome accessory turns the piece into a display object. The surface is soft and matte, and fidelity to the photo runs around 85%.
Which suits which buyer? Memorial lines usually want clay, because a memorial piece lives or dies on the face. Gift shops, groomers and personalised-gift sellers often add felt for its tactile appeal and its pairing with a glass dome. Many of our B2B clients carry both and let the end customer choose.
Care for each material
- Soft clay: sensitive to environment and temperature. Avoid collision, dropping and high heat.
- Wool felt: must not be washed. Keep it away from oil, dye, cosmetics and cleaning agents. A little surface fuzz is normal for natural wool and can be trimmed with small scissors. Keep it away from pets — they may chew the wool.

Sizes, Poses and Expressions You Can Specify
Pose is chosen by the buyer, not by us: sitting, standing or lying down. Expression is chosen too, from three options — mouth closed, mouth closed with tongue out, or mouth open with tongue out. That single decision does more for likeness than almost anything else, because it fixes the character of the piece: calm, playful, or mid-bark.
| Specification | Soft clay (sculpted) | Wool felt (needle-felted) |
|---|---|---|
| Size | approx. 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 cm | approx. 15 cm |
| Display height | approx. 10 cm / 15 cm / 17 cm / 20 cm+ | approx. 15 cm |

Sizes can be mixed within a single wholesale order, so a reseller can stock a small entry size and a larger centrepiece. Tell us your size mix and we will confirm the plan.
How Accurate Will Your Custom Pet Figurine Look?
We would rather set this expectation before you order than after. A handmade custom pet figurine is not a moulded replica, and it should not be sold as one.
- Soft clay: approximately 90%+ overall fidelity to the reference photo.
- Wool felt: approximately 85% fidelity, faithful to the photo in shape and colour.
Small details will always differ, because the piece is sculpted, felted and painted by hand rather than cast from a mould. We state this openly, and we ask our B2B partners to state it openly to their customers too — it is a property of handmade craft, not a defect. In practice, buyers respond well to that honesty, and it protects you from the returns conversation that unrealistic promises create.
Want a realistic read on your own reference photos? Share them with us and we will give you a straight answer on what the finished piece can and cannot capture.
The Photos That Make a Great Figurine
The photo is the raw material. What we can sculpt is limited by what we can see.
- A clear, well-lit photo with a complete silhouette — no cropping at the paws, ears or tail.
- Front, side and back views are recommended for a fuller three-dimensional read.
- Higher-resolution originals give more detail in the finished piece: coat texture, eye shape, muzzle length, markings and colour transitions.
Send several images if you have them. A single flat snapshot under indoor light will produce a flatter result than three sharp photos taken in daylight, and there is no cost to sending more.
Customization Options: Names, Colours and Marks
Every order is configured, not picked off a shelf. Buyers choose:
- Size — 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 cm in clay, or the standard 15 cm felt piece.
- Pose — sitting, standing or lying down.
- Facial expression — the three mouth options above.
- The pet’s name or a specific mark added to the piece.
- Colour reproduced from the buyer’s photos.
- A glass-dome accessory for felted pieces, where a display format suits your retail channel.
Because every piece is bespoke, custom orders cannot be returned or exchanged. That is one more reason we build approval into the process rather than leaving it to chance.

From Photo to Finished Piece: The Ordering Process
Seven steps, and nothing is shipped until you have seen and approved it.
- Send photos of the pet.
- Confirm the plan — pose, expression, size and any name or mark.
- Hand-making begins in the studio.
- A draft photo is sent for your confirmation.
- Details are adjusted to your feedback.
- Production is completed only after the buyer approves.
- A final photo is sent before shipping.
For wholesale and OEM buyers, the same sequence applies to the sample: MOQ 1 pc, sample time 1-3 days, production time 2-10 days. Repeat orders follow an approved sample, which keeps a reseller’s reorders consistent.

Whatever your channel, the entry point is the same: one photo, one plan, one piece — MOQ 1 pc, sample in 1-3 days, production in 2-10 days.
