Cotton or Microfiber? Choosing the Right Towel Fabric

Most buyers start with the fiber question, and the answer depends on where the towel will live.

Cotton terry is the hotel and spa standard. We use Xinjiang cotton and Xinjiang long-staple cotton. Long-staple fiber runs roughly 35-45 mm in staple length against 25-30 mm for ordinary cotton, and 46-48 cN/tex in strength against 42-44 — which translates into fewer short fibers shedding out of the pile and a towel that holds up to repeated laundering. Bath towels are woven from combed 40s yarn, spa towels from 32s, and beauty-bed sets can be made in 60s combed yarn for a finer, smoother hand. The result is a soft feel with low lint, which is exactly what hotel housekeeping and skin-care rooms need.

Microfiber covers the fast-turnaround side of the business. Our polyester-nylon quick-dry and cool-touch nano fabrics suit head towels, spa sets, gym towels and travel programs — light in the bag, quick to dry, cool against the skin, and easy to pack in volume for events.

A simple rule: if absorbency, hand feel and laundry durability drive the decision, choose cotton terry. If drying speed, pack weight and rapid reuse drive it — gyms, saunas, beauty studios with back-to-back clients — choose microfiber.

Size & Weight Guide by Use

Sizes are quoted in centimeters, and gram weight means the weight of one piece at that size. A heavier towel at the same dimensions has a denser pile: more absorbency, a plusher hand, longer service life, and slower drying. A 140×70 cm bath towel at about 310 g is a light economy towel; hotel-grade bath towels in the same footprint climb toward 750 g.

Weaving and sewing tolerance of roughly ±3 cm, or ±3-5%, is normal in this category and should be built into your specification. On printed towels, if your artwork carries no bleed margin, the printed side can run 3-5 cm smaller than the file — send artwork with bleed and keep borders and stripes simple.

LOGO embroidery and computer embroidery stitch your mark into the terry with high-density stitching. It is the most durable option — it survives repeated washing and keeps a premium look — and it is the natural choice for hotel names, spa brands, monograms and staff supply programs. Laser engraving burns crisp text into the loop without thread. It is the fastest decoration route to schedule, gives a subtle tonal mark rather than a color contrast, and works especially well on darker shades and gift sets.

Digital printing and reactive printing carry full-color artwork, event logos and photographs, on the front or back, single or double sided. Single-side printing leaves the reverse in the natural terry color, and reverse-direction loops may show tiny white points — normal for printed terry, not a defect. Reactive dyeing keeps colors wash-safe and fade-resistant.

Gift-box hot stamping applies gold or silver foil to the box itself, which turns a towel into a presentable set for hotel welcome gifts, wedding and birthday favors, and corporate giveaways.
